Writing under the pen name of Mark Twain, Clemens authored many books most notably, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In his earlier life he worked as a newspaper writer in New York and Philadelphia before returning home to Missouri where he became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi. He also hoped to strike it rich during the Silver Rush in Nevada in the 1860s but, as with most of his financial ventures, he was unsuccessful.
